Daniel Mitov Ready for Foreign Minister Role Amid Geopolitical Test in Bulgaria
Daniel Mitov, Deputy Chairman of GERB, has expressed his readiness to assume the position of Acting Foreign Minister
The Prosecutor's Office has summoned Emil Dimitrov, former controversial Member of the Parliament from the centrist Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, over information of violation of voters' rights.
The probe stems from a report of Nova TV, showing how during a seminar in a hotel in the town of Etropole, owned by Dimitrov, participants have been given instructions for vote manipulations.
Recently, the Commission for Establishing and Preventing Conflict of Interest announced it has found that the former MP has committed a number of such conflicts.
In the aftermath, he informed he has left Bulgaria and is currently in another EU Member State.
Speaking on the phone for Channel 3 TV, Dimitrov explained he was going to tell a foreign notary public important things he knew, stressing he decided to go abroad over fear for the lives of his children as he had information there was a threat against them.
GERB distanced themselves from him, insisting he must bear full responsibility for his words and actions.
The Nova TV report showed how in the said hotel, participants in the seminar were lectured on ways to use money to provide more votes for the notorious Eagles' Bridge college students' movement, which elected as its "signature mark" football legend, Hristo Stoichkov.
The participants were given the task of securing 30 000 advocates for the movement and 10 people each to vote for it. Advocates and "recruited" voters were to receive BGN 30 per person on election day.
A male voice was heart telling the TV that under Stoichkov's patronage, Dimitrov was the one organizing the participants.
Other journalistic investigations proved Dimitrov is affiliated with the movement.
The former MP was always considered to be someone very close to ex Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov.
