Bulgaria: Bulgaria's Energy Watchdog Proposes 3.89% Decrease in Q2, 2013 Gas Prices
A working group of Bulgaria's State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation has proposed a reduction in gas prices by 3.89% from April 1, 2013. File

A working group of Bulgaria's State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (DKEVR) has proposed a reduction in gas prices by 3.89% from April 1, 2013 from the current rate of BGN 656.47 to BGN 630.94 per 1000 cubic meters, VAT and excise duty excluded.

The proposal is part of a report published on the website of the energy watchdog, mediapool.bg informs.

On March 11, Bulgaria's state-owned gas supplier Bulgargaz proposed a gas price reduction by 3.22% to BGN 635.35 per 1000 cubic meters, VAT and excise duty excluded, for Q2, 2013.

According to calculations of DKEVR, the reduction in gas prices will bring about a reduction in heating rates and the preferential tariff for electricity produced by heating utilities through co-generation.

DKEVR expects heating rates to drop by different percentages depending on heating utilities, with the biggest price drop of 6.54% to be introduced by Toplofikatsia Burgas.

Meanwhile, the public consultative council at DKEVR is to hold a meeting on March 22 to discuss reports of the working group on the new prices of natural gas and central heating.

The energy watchdog is to announce the final Q2, 2013 prices of natural gas and heating next week.
