Banks will no longer charge fees on payments to Bulgaria's treasury, according to Deputy Prime Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva.

Zaharieva, as cited by Bulgarian mass circulation daily Standard, made clear Monday that the caretaker government would fulfill the pledge to install POS terminals at all desks of local and central government institutions.

She noted that an ordinance and an agreement with 17 banks had paved the way for the step, adding that Bulgarians would no longer have to pay BGN 4 in bank charges for a service worth BGN 1.

Zaharieva also pointed out that the caretaker government headed by Prime Minister Marin Raykov would do its best to introduce the e-government as soon as possible.

She said that the first stage of the implementation of the e-government project would cover a total of 50 to 100 services which had been estimated to create the greatest difficulties for Bulgarian citizens and businesses.
