Kiril Temelkov, CEO of state-owned gas transmission operator Bulgartransgaz, attended Tuesday the sod-turning ceremony of a gas pipeline connecting the northeastern Bulgarian cities of Dobrich and Silistra.

The first stage in the implementation of the project includes the construction of an automatic gas regulator station on the territory of the village of Kalipetrovo, according to reports of state-owned gas supplier Bulgargaz, as cited by the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA).

The gas pipeline is to be 80km long and 350 mm in diameter and to have a capacity of 100 000 cubic meters of natural gas per hour.

The project is worth around EUR 12.3 M, with EUR 9.2 M of the money to be provided under the Kozloduy International Decommissioning Support Fund and the remaining part of the funding to be supplied by Bulgartransgaz.

The gas pipeline project is to be completed by the beginning of January 2014.

The construction of the pipe will allow the gasification of the municipalities of Dobrich, Tervel, Dulovo, Alfatar, and Silistra.

The construction permit for the gas pipeline was given in end-2012 by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works.
