Protest Rallies of Bulgarians Held again Monday
The protest rallies of Bulgarians against the political model, unbearable utility bills and wide-spread poverty continue Monday.
The rally in the capital Sofia will start at 5 pm on the Eagles' Bridge intersection.
Another one is scheduled for 6 pm in front of the Parliament, with demands to not adjourn the General Assembly. The Members of the Parliament have no sitting Monday despite the request from the demonstrators issued one day earleir.
In Varna, the demonstrators are gathering at 6 pm in front of the City Hall building. In addition to other demands, they are calling for the resignation of 4th term Mayor, Kiril Yordanov, lastly elected on the ticked of the GERB party.
Protests in the southwestern city of Blagoevgrad are scheduled for Wednesday with threats to block the main E-79 road to Greece.
Over 100 000 took on the streets across Bulgaria Sunday. They already submitted their requests to the President, who asked all institutions in the country to focus on them.
There are strong disagreements among different groups of disgruntled people, but some of the demands that have emerged so far are: moratorium on the December 2012 utility bills, until proven legal; not adjourning the Parliament; the President appointing a program government instead of a caretaker one; drafting a Civil Participation Bill providing a 50% civil quota in all institutions; returning 51% of the shares of power utilities to the State; closing the Bulgarian Energy Holding, BEH, for draining the energy sector, summoning a Grand General Assembly, establishing a procedure to recall Members of the Parliament.
Despite the huge crowds and earlier fears, there are no reports about provocations, clashes and other serious incidents.
The two-week long protests led to the resignation of the GERB Cabinet of Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, last Thursday.
