Followers of outgoing Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, are gathering in downtown Sofia Saturday to show their support for him and his Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB.
The rally is held in front of the building of the Parliament. The situation is reported as calm; there are no posters, slogans, and shouts. The building is isolated by metal fences and two police cars are guarding the crowd.
Meanwhile, the GERB press office issued a statement the party has nothing to do with the organization of the rally. They call on all citizens who wish to show support for Borisov and GERB to steer away from provocations and attempts to escalate public tensions.
Borisov has spoken as well, thanking all who are staging rallies in his support, but asking them to halt all and any demonstrations and not participate in provocations.
"I reiterate for yet another time that elections are the only right and democratic way for people to show their allegiance to anyone," said Borisov before the Focus news agency.
Protest rallies of Bulgarians against high utility bills have been held for many days, with political parties attempting to benefit from them. The protests led to the resignation of Borisov's GERB government as well.
