Bulgaria: Bulgarian PM's Assassination Claim Was Distraction - Ex-Interior Min

Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov's claim that former ethnic Turkish party leader Ahmed Dogan masterminded a plan to assassinate him was intended as a distraction from Borisov's resignation, according to former Interior Minister Rumen Petkov.

Petkov told reporters that Borisov attempted to distract the public's attention from "his government's failure" by stating that Dogan ordered his assassination.

Borisov accused the Bulgarian Turk party leader of plotting an assassination attempt on his life while speaking from the parliamentary rostrum just minutes after parliament accepted with overwhelming majority the resignation of his government,

Borisov cited an alleged document from the intelligence of a foreign country. He further called on parliament to form an ad hoc committee to make public the classified document.

Dogan was himself the subject of a reportedly bogus "assassination attempt" last month.
