Leader of Bulgarian liberal party Movement for Rights and Freedoms Lyutvi Mestan has dismissed resigned PM Boyko Borisov's claim that former Movement leader Ahmed Dogan had plotted an assassination attempt against Borisov.

"This is a concerted effort to inflame an ethnic conflict in the country. This is not a democratic, but rather a post-totalitarian move," stated Mestan.

Many of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms's supporters are known to come from Bulgaria's sizeable ethnic Turkish minority.

According to Mestan, Borisov's sensational allegation right after Parliament accepted his resignation can in no way be substantiated and can only be interpreted as intending to create and unexcusable tension in Bulgaria.

"If it turns out that the resigned PM presents as a fact someone's unconfirmed hypotheses, then he will have to bear his grave responsibility for that," added the MRF leader.

Borisov had alleged that he had recently become aware of a report by "an intelligence agency from a partner country" stating that Ahmed Dogan had allegedly organized an attempt on Borisov's life.

Mestan called on Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev to do everything to preserve order and the proper working of institutions in Bulgaria in the period leading to the next elections in July or earlier.

He stated that he was resolute that the Movement's supporters will not allow the eruption of tensions and will behave as responsible citizens of a democratic country.

Liberal Party: Resigned Bulgarian PM Tried to Inflame Ethnic Conflict
This from the party that was involved in what looked like assassination and after they lynched the attacker. They can try to brush accusations off as much as they want, but we saw their character...a bunch of brutish mongrels.
