Bulgaria: Bulgarian Parliament Suffers Blackout During Cabinet Resignation Debate

Electric power went off for a minute in the Bulgarian Parliament during a heated debate on the surprise resignation of Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov's cabinet amid massive protests.

This is symbolic, as the protests were triggered by excessively high electricity bills, as low incomes and economic stagnation have left many Bulgarians struggling.

Protesters argued that power utilities have been abusing their monopoly positions in the regions they are servicing.

Power in Parliament went out right after a long speech by Vice-PM and Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov, which was criticized by the opposition as lacking in substance and incoherent.

The supply of electricity was promptly restored and the plenary sitting continues.
