Bulgaria to Introduce Seasonal Electric Power Tariffs: Bulgaria to Introduce Seasonal Electric Power Tariffs

In addition to day and night prices of electric power, Bulgaria will introduce soon a seasonal tariff.

The new electric power fees are included in a draft decree of the State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation, DKEVR.

The directive is one from a number of administrative acts from the Electricity and Gas Directives requested by the European Commission.

It was reported on January 24 that EC was referring Bulgaria, Estonia and the United Kingdom to the Court of Justice of the European Union for delaying and failing to fully apply the EU internal energy market rules.

The news led to the dismissal of DKEVR Head, Angel Semerdzhiev.

Under the new regulations, the power utilities will be given the opportunity to request seasonal prices for some of their customers. The tariffs will change more than once a year.

According to the directive, changes of natural gas prices and of those of harmful emissions influence significantly the price of electric power and DKEVR could adjust the latter.

The changes might now happen quarterly, since gas prices are adjusted four times a year.
