Send to KindleA handful of polling stations for Bulgaria's Sunday referendum on nuclear energy have not yet opened due to inclemend winter weather, announced election authorities.
This refers to some villages in Burgas, Varna, Pazadzhik and Haskovo regions, where extensive snowfall has blocked local roads.
Teams are working for the clearing of the roads and ensuring a normal voting day, stated Electoral Commission spokeswoman Ralitsa Negentsova.
Sunday Bulgarians have to say 'yes' or 'no' to the question "Should nuclear energy be developed in the Republic of Bulgaria through the construction of a new nuclear power plant?"
The referendum was initiated by a public petition supported by opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party on the occasion of the frozen Belene NPP project.
