Bulgaria's new Chief Prosecutor elect Sotir Tsatsarov was a good choice, commented President Rosen Plevneliev Sunday.

Plevneliev was answering jounralists' questions asking why he signed Tsatsarov's appointment on the very next day after an election procedure at the Supreme Judicial Council that many saw as flawed.

"I had no doubts whatsoever upon signing the decree," stated the Bulgarian President Sunday.

"Tsatsarov is starting out with a high level of public and institutional trust, and I wish him success in his new position," added Plevneliev.

Many had claimed that new election rules adopted by the Supreme Judicial Council ahead of the election were tailored to favor Tsatsarov.

In addition, the former Plovdiv District Court head has implicating in misleading statements regarding his financial circumstances.

Critics have also pointed out Tsatsarov's perceived closeness to members of the executive, in particular Minister of Interior Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who has frequently sought to influence Bulgaria's judiciary.

Sotir Tsatsarov is to swear in for his 7-year term in office as Bulgaria's Chief Prosecutor on Thursday, January 10.
