Bulgaria's government is due to make a decision by the end of January 2013 on whether to build two more bridges on the Danube, Bulgarian Regional Development Minister Pavlova revealed.

In her words, by the end of January, the Bulgarian government will also decided whether it wants to build two more bridges on the Danube to establish new land route links with neighboring Romania.

In her words, these new bridges can be built through public-private partnerships.

Bulgaria and Romania have been linked by the so called Danube Bridge 1 at Ruse-Giurgiu since 1954, and a second bridge at Vidin-Calafat is to become operational in May 2013.

Almost BGN 2 B will be "poured" in Bulgaria's construction sector in 2013, according to another forecast made by Bulgarian Regional Development Minister Lilyana Pavlova.

The cited amount of money will be invested from EU Operational Program "Regional Development", the World Bank, and the Bulgarian state budget, Pavlova told BTA Tuesday.

She said these prospects gave her reasons to expect doubling of the growth of Bulgaria's construction sector, including a rise in the number of employed construction workers.

Pavlova also revealed that the residents of Sofia and the southern city of Smolyan are the most active of all cities in Bulgaria in their desire to rehabilitate their communist-era apartment buildings, known as panel block construction, under programs for energy efficiency sponsored by the EU and the Bulgarian government.

A total of 200 residential panel construction buildings will be rehabilitated in all of Bulgaria in 2013 under the program, with a total of 140 applications having been submitted so far.

The minister added that during EU's next programming budget period – 2014-2020 – Bulgaria can get about BGN 200 M in funding for energy efficiency rehabilitation for panel block buildings.

Pavlova further revealed that by the end of January 2013 the Bulgarian government will decided whether to start building 10 new water reservoirs across the country over water shortage problems.
