Bulgaria: Levee Breaks in New Jersey, 3 Towns Flooded
A satellite image provided by the National Oceanic and Athmosperic Administration NOAA on 29 October 2012 shows post-Tropical Cyclone Sandy making landfall at 8 p.m. ET on 29 October 2012 about 5 miles southwest of Atlantic City, NJ, as seen in this NOAA

A levee has broken in northern New Jersey, prompting the evacuation of hundreds of people in the wake of superstorm Sandy.

Bergen County executive chief of staff Jeanne Baratta has said the entire town of Moonachie is under water and as many as 1,000 people could need to be evacuated, international media inform.

There are no reports of any injuries or deaths, Baratta has told NorthJersey.com.

The towns of Little Ferry and Carlstadt are also reportedly underwater as a result of the levee breach that affected around 2,000 residents.

Moonachie, Little Ferry and Carlstadt are said to be flooded with 1.2m to 1.5m of water.

At least 16 people are feared dead across the US east coast and Canada as superstorm Sandy, a former hurricane, causes widespread flooding and power cuts.
