Bulgarian Banitza Deal

A man is buying a piece of banitza (the traditional savory pastry of Bulgaria). He takes a lev out of his pocket and hands it to the seller. But she frowns and says:

“I am sorry, but the banitza now costs 2 levs.”

“But why?” asks the man.

“Well, one lev for the banitza and one lev for Boyko Borisov (Bulgaria’s Prime minister)”.

The man decides it is better not to protest too much, pays 2 levs for his breakfast and goes home.

The next day he goes again to the pastry shop and without saying anything hands 2 levs to the seller. But to his surprise the woman gives him back one lev.

“Why is that? Didn’t you say that the new price is 2 levs?”

“Yes, but we ran out of banitza for today.”
