Bulgaria has been exporting cannabis to Greece over the past few years, according to a Bulgarian police official.

People living around the Southwestern Bulgarian town of Petrich have been growing cannabis in local forests or in abandoned fields, according to Georgi Kostov, head of the Blagoevgrad police department.

The local elderly villagers usually claim that the marijuana seeds have been carried by winds from nearby Greece, Kostov has told the Pressa daily.

He has pointed out that the Petrich region has the perfect climate for growing cannabis.
