The only certain details about the July 18 bus bombing in Burgas, which are recognized by all partner services, is that it was prepared outside Bulgaria by foreign nationals, according to Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov.
In a Sunday interview for private TV channel TV7, Tsvetanov made clear that the terror attack could have been prevented if the authorities had received an early warning by the partner services, as had been the case with the incident in Cyprus a few months earlier, where one had been arrested.
Bulgaria's Interior Minister refused to specify if the terror plot had been crafted in an EU country.
He explained that the Bulgarian authorities had not yet pressed charges because the investigation of the bus bombing at the Sarafovo airport was still underway.
The terror attack in the Black Sea city of Burgas killed seven, including five Israeli tourists, the Bulgarian bus driver and a suspected suicide bomber.
Tsvetanov, who has often been criticized for his undue interference in the works of the judiciary, voiced optimism over the ongoing procedure for the appointment of new members of the Supreme Judicial Council (VSS), stressing the unprecedented transparency of the vote.
Six members of the new VSS panel from the judges' quota were elected Sunday, following 24 hours of voting.
