Bulgarian authorities are about to lift the construction ban in the Kamchia Sands Protected Area on Friday, local media have alarmed.

The area's  construction ban expires on August 31 and will not be renewed, the country's Environment Ministry has told Mediapool.

The Ministry has claimed that "construction will not be allowed" in the area, even though the ban is to be lifted.

However, "For the Nature in Bulgaria" a coalition of various envrironmental organizations, has expressed its concerns, saying the move would pave the way for the construction of a massive resort complex planned by four companies linked with Raiffeisenbank.
