Turkey may soon run out of space to house refugees fleeing from the Syrian conflict, the country's Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has alarmed.
"If the number of refugees in Turkey surpasses 100,000, we will run out of space to accommodate them. We should be able to accommodate them in Syria. The United Nations may build camps in a safe zone within Syria's borders," Davutoglu has told Hurriyet, as cited by international media.
The Turkish Foreign Minister said Ankara would take part in a ministerial meeting of the UN Security Council on August 30 to study the humanitarian situation in Syria and neighboring countries, hoping a decision will be taken there.
The influx of Syrian refugees increased in Turkey over the last week as a result of a Syrian army offensive and fighting in the northern city of Aleppo, reaching a total of 70,000.
