Tony Scott, the director of Top Gun and Beverly Hills Cop II, among others, has jumped to death from from the Vincent Thomas Bridge near the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach in California., international media inform.

Authorities have told the Daily Breeze that suicide note was found inside Scott's black Toyota Prius, which was parked on one of the eastbound lanes of the bridge.

"At this point we are investigating this as a suicide," Los Angeles County Coroner Lt. Joe Bale has said, as cited by Bloomberg.

"I can confirm that Tony Scott has indeed passed away," his publicist, Simon Halls, said in an e-mail. "The family asks that their privacy be respected at this time."

Tony Scott's films include The Hunger,Crimson Tide, Enemy of the State, Spy Game, Man on Fire, D?j? Vu, The Taking of Pelham 123 and Unstoppable.

He was the younger brother of another prominent movie director, Ridley Scott.
