Bulgarian Football Championship to Stay off TV

Sports | August 14, 2012, Tuesday // 17:04

The 2012/13 edition of the Bulgarian national football championship will not be aired on TV for both of its seasons, it surfaced Tuesday.

Football clubs and TV channels have failed to reach a deal for the amount needed to grant airing rights, said owner of top Bulgarian team Levski Sofia, Todor Batkov.

After the meeting between clubs and channels, Batkov said that the clubs had stated they would not grant rights for less than BGN 5 M, a sum that channels were not willing to pay.

"There is no decision for TV rights whatsoever. What is cliear is that both seasons will remain in the dark. They will be only aired on radios," said the Levski owner.

According to him, BGN 5 M is a sensible amount and concerns by channels that the championship is not strong enough are irrelevant.
