Bulgarian Miroslav Kirchev has qualified for the semi-finals in men's canoe sprint k1 1000m heats at Eton Dorney, the Olympic rowing lake owned by Britain's elite Eton College.
Kirchev's was the first of canoeing heats at the Olympic Games in London on Monday morning and he managed to cross the finishing line third, clocking 3:30.768 minutes.
The world champion in this category, Canada's Adam Van Koeverden, traveled the 1,000 m in 3 min 28.697 sec. He overtook Serbian Marko Tomicevic and the Bulgarian Miroslav Kirchev.
Noting his insurmountable lead, the Canadian champion even slowed down in the final meters.
The top qualifiers in the other two heats were Denmark's Rene Poulsen with 3:30.284 and Sweden's Anders Gustafsson with 3:34.419.
The semi-finals will be held later in the day.
