The members and the followers of the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) are holding Saturday their traditional meeting at Mount Buzludzha under the motto "Decisiveness for Change."

50 thousand Bulgarian socialists are expected to gather at the 19th meeting, held at Mount in the Stara Planina range, to mark the 121th anniversary of the Socialist Movement in Bulgaria and the Day of BSP, August 2nd.

The celebrations will begin with a concert and an official ceremony for the laying of wreaths and flowers. 121 young socialists will be presented with their first party membership cards and welcomed into the inner circle of BSP

The youth branch of the party will fly scores of kites in the sky, all adorned with the BSP symbols. Their activists will be explaining the measures undertaken by the Party of the European Socialists, PES, to reduce youth unemployment in Europe, which is also a stated priority of the Bulgarian socialists. There are several tents where, in addition to learning about PES, everyone can become an activist of the party.

In continuing the tradition, awards will be bestowed by the Nikolay Dobrev Foundation for Young Politician 2012, and by the National Council of BSP for Best Political Journalist. The BSP youth organization's campaign "Give a Star to the Future" is continuing for the second year in a row.

The entire BSP leadership and a number of MPs are expected to attend. BSP party leader, leader of PES, and former Bulgarian Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev, will deliver the keynote address.

The Mayor of the Danube town of Belene will speak about the need of having a second Nuclear Power Plant, NPP, built in the area of his town, while the Deputy Chairman of BSP, Yanaki Stoilov, will present the results of the socialist campaign to collect signatures for a petition to hold a referendum on the Belene NPP. Over 770 000 such signatures have been collected, according to Stanishev.

Meanwhile, it was announced late Friday that the monument at Mount Buzludzha has been illuminated in the national colors despite the ban of the Stara Zagora Regional Governor, Nedyalko Nedyalkov, to access the inside of the monument over unsafe conditions. The initiative belongs to the young socialists, and took place for the second year in a row, ignoring the ban.

The traffic police have closed since Friday evening the road between Shipka and Buzludzha for buses and heavy trucks.

The bans stirred outrage in BSP and accusations the ruling, center-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria, GERB, party is attempting to foil the celebrations.

In 1891 on Mount Buzludzha the foundations of the Socialist Movement in Bulgaria were laid. The monument erected at the site and unveiled in 1981 on the occasion of the 1300th anniversary of the founding of the Bulgarian State is shaped in the form of a UFO.
