Bulgaria: Bulgarian Terrorist Attack Bomber May Have Been Deluded Drug Smuggler - Report

One of the main versions in the investigation of the July 18 terrorist attack in Bulgaria's Burgas is that the alleged suicide bomber was not aware he had explosives on him, according to unconfirmed reports in the Bulgarian media.

The July 18 terrorist attack in Bulgaria's Burgas, also known as the Burgas Bus Bombing, killed 5 Israeli tourists and a Bulgarian bus driver at the Sarafovo Airport near Burgas.

Thus, the Bulgarian and international investigators are said to be investigating a version in which the alleged suicide bomber was in fact a victim of the terrorist. He is believed to have been deluded, and to have been forced to smuggle into Bulgaria what he thought was a shipment of drugs.

Experts have commented that it is not unusual for terrorist groups such as Al Qaeda to delude their suicide bombers by making them believe they have to transport drugs some place as "drug mules", without knowing that they actually carry explosives and will be blown up.

Another practice of terrorist organization is said to be selecting people with serious health problems, heavily in debt, or drug addicts who might be aware of what they are expected to do, with their suicide bombing expected to help their families.

The "deluded drug smuggler" version of the investigation of the Burgas Bus Bombing is said to be based on the fact that the suicide bomber is known to have been disguised with a wig upon arriving to Bulgaria, whereas the actual suicide bombers are usually not expected to be in disguise since they are aware of their task. What is more, the Burgas suicide bomber is known to have had a Caucasian appearance which, according to experts, would have allowed him to blend in without additional disguise.

Bulgarian Terrorist Attack Bomber May Have Been Deluded Drug Smuggler - Report
My goodness! As I wrote the day this happened, the theories will run rampant with finger pointing, conspiracies and anything else to keep peace with all countries involved. We shall never know the entire truth and even if we do find it eventually, it will never bring back the lives lost or the trauma Bulgaria suffered for this horrendous act.
