A batch of new subway wagons, which will be used in Sofia, arrived Monday at Port Varna Port from Port Kavkaz on the 'Vanguard' ferry.

In May 2011, Metropoliten EAD, the municipality-owned Sofia metro company, assigned the delivery of 18 subway trains to the Russian Metrowagonmash plant in a deal worth EUR 77 M, VAT excluded and after a contested tender procedure.

Sofia's metro has been using mobile units made by the Russian company ever since it was launched.

After the new trains go into operation, Bulgaria will be using a total of 112 Russian wagons.

On Tuesday, Sofia Mayor Yordanka Fandakova and Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski will attend the launch of the new subway trains.

The event has been scheduled for 12 noon at the "Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski " metro station.
