Police Launch Operation Targeting Trucks and Buses Across Bulgaria
In a bid to enhance road safety, Bulgarian authorities have initiated a comprehensive police operation targeting trucks and buses, set to extend throughout the week
A modern 500-space TIR truck parking lot will be built near the Danube Bridge in the place of the old border crossing point, according to Bulgarian Transport Minister Ivaylo Moskovski.
Speaking in the Danube city of Ruse on Monday, Moskovski explained that the plot of 60 000-65 000 square meters had already been transferred to the municipal administration by the Finance Ministry.
He specified that a section of the terrain would remain under the management of the Customs Agency to be used as a tax warehouse and as the premises of the Border Police, while the remaining territory had been included in a project for a new parking lot.
Moskovski announced that the construction of the parking lot, which would be equipped with all necessary facilities, would start after the Public-Private Partnership Act was passed on second reading.
Moskovski explained that some 20 buffer zones would also be built for the trucks to stop, thereby reducing congestion.
Bulgaria's Transport Minister assured that several such sites would be built on the Ruse-Veliko Tarnovo road.
He explained that the regulations for TIR truck traffic would grow stricter in the future, with bans valid for increasing periods of time, the aim being to clear roads of trucks during weekends and holidays.
Moskovski added that the majority of riverbank sites in Ruse would be granted under concession.
The Bulgarian government officially launched the procedure for granting the Ruse-West port terminal under concession for 35 years on Friday.
Under the terms of the contract, the future concessionaire undertakes to invest around BGN 8 M in the facility, which is part of the Ruse Port Complex, for the entire period of 35 years.
Moskovski said Monday that the pre-concession studies would also be conducted for the Ruse-East port terminal.
He added that the winter camp harbour of the Executive Agency for Exploration and Maintenance of the Danube River would also be granted under concession, emphasizing that the attempts in the last two years to provide state funding for the finalization of the project had failed, unfortunately.
