Bulgarians Show Lowest Support for EU Membership
Bulgaria finds itself at the bottom of the list in terms of citizens who believe in the benefits of EU membership, according to the latest Eurobarometer survey results
EU Foreign Policy Representative Catherine Ashton and EU Foreign Ministers have declared solidarity with Bulgaria over the July 18 terrorist attack in the Black Sea city of Burgas, in which a suicide bomber killed 5 Israeli tourists and a Bulgarian bus driver.
Bulgaria's Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov participated Monday in a meeting of the General Affairs and External Relations Council of the European Union in which he informed his EU counterparts about the terrorist attack in Burgas and its consequences, the press service of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry announced.
"We are sending a very strong message of solidarity with the Bulgarian government," EU Foreign Policy chief Ashton stated at the meeting, condemning the Burgas bus bombing as "horrifying".
Mladenov described the terrorist attack in Burgas as "the first attack of its kind on Bulgarian territory".
He stressed the cooperation of the Bulgarian security services with their partners and with Europol.
"I am thankful for this assistance because our goal is to make such situations impossible in Bulgaria and in Europe in the future.
In his words, the Bulgarian government is not going to blame the Burgas bus bombing on anybody until the investigation is fully completed.
