A panel of academics at Romania's Bucharest University has determined that the country's Prime Minister Victor Ponta plagiarized a large part of his doctoral thesis.
It was the Bucharest University that awarded Ponta's qualification.
According to Marian Popescu, president of the ethics commission at Bucharest University "elements of plagiarism were identified in the doctoral thesis of Mr Victor Ponta especially in chapters one and three,"
"It is our commission's decision that (Ponta's) 2003 doctoral thesis called 'International Criminal Court' at the Bucharest Faculty of Law breaks the ethical, integrity and good conduct principles of the research activity," Popescu said, as cited by international media.
On Wednesday, Romania's National Ethics Council decided that the PhD thesis written by Ponta and publicly held in 2003 observes the academic demands of that time and is comparable from this point of view with other PhD theses held in that period.
