Two German citizens, husband and wife, who assaulted Wednesday Bulgarian police officers, have been handed suspended sentences of three months with three years of probation.
On Wednesday, police officers stationed near the northern Bulgarian town of Kilifarevo told the German TIR truck driver to stop the vehicle at a parking lot because the Pass of the Republic had been closed due to the scorching heat.
The driver, however, stopped the TIR truck so as to block traffic in both directions, got off the vehicle, together with his wife, and the two started kicking and pushing the police officers.
The German nationals have been convicted of hooliganism and of inflicting light bodily harm on four police officers.
They have been released and are free to leave Bulgaria.
