Aston Villa captain Stiliyan Petrov, who was shockingly diagnosed with acute leukemia in March, may head for native Bulgaria for a short visit, according to unconfirmed information.

Stan is taking a short break from his chemotherapy and plans to come to Bulgaria for a few days, but would like to keep a low profile while here, according to media reports.

Petrov was released at the end of last month from a London hospital, but his battle against the horrible disease is far from over.

On his birthday July 5 Stan turned up at the club's training complex for the first time since his chemotherapy treatment began and marked his 33rd year with a simple, but highly emotional gathering.

Paul Lambert has confirmed Petrov will remain Aston Villa captain as he continues the battle for his life.
