Bulgaria's male national volleyball team finished fourth in the 2012 World League, as it lost dramatically to Cuba on Sunday in Sofia.
The Cubans managed to defeat the home boys 3-2 (25-18, 19-25, 23-25, 25-23, 15-12), clinging a podium finish in a game that lasted more than two hours.
The team has been shaken lately by an acrid scandal with the Bulgarian Volleyball federation, the resignation of popular and successful coach Radostin Stoychev and key player Matey Kaziyski.
However, the hosts were really close to winning the bronze medals.
Bulgarian Todor Alexiev took the tournament's best receiver and best scorer awards.
Later on Sunday, Poland beat the United States 25-17, 26-24, 25-20 on Sunday to win its first gold medal in the World League volleyball finals.
