The blast that seriously injured a man in the Bulgarian town of Sandanski was a "purely criminal" act, the country's Interior Minister believes.

59-year-old Roma man Malin Iliev was passing by when he noticed a suspicious package in front of the office of the Euroroma political party in the town.

As he picked up the package, a bomb went off and injured him.

"As far as I know, the injured individual is out of danger," Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov has told reporters.

Tsvetanov has stated that there were no political motivations for the explosion. He believes the police will capture the perpetrators within several days.
