Bulgarian EPP group MPP Iliana Ivanova is set to join the European Court of Auditors, as her nomination was endorsed by the European Parliament on Wednesday.

A total of 309 MEPs voted in favour, while 39 were against and 185 abstained.

Ivanova graduated from Varna University with both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in International Business Relations in 1999, and then worked in the United States banking industry as a financial analyst.

She will replace Nadeida Sandolova, the current Bulgarian representative in the Court of Auditors.

Members of the Court of Auditors are appointed for six years. The Council, after consulting the European Parliament, decides upon the proposals made by each member state.

To prepare for a hearing in Parliament, a candidate is asked to answer a questionnaire prepared by the Budgetary Control Committee. At the hearing, candidates may make a five-minute opening statement, followed by a 25-minute question and reply session with committee members.
