Daniel Mitov Ready for Foreign Minister Role Amid Geopolitical Test in Bulgaria
Daniel Mitov, Deputy Chairman of GERB, has expressed his readiness to assume the position of Acting Foreign Minister
Interim PES leader and re-elected Bularian Socialist Party chair Sergey Stanishev is presenting Saturday his proposals for a new Executive Board of the Bulgarian Socialists.
"There is one single goal for our party - to win the next parliamentary elections in Bulgaria," stated Stanishev at Saturday's closed sitting of the BSP National Council.
He added that the Socialists have responsibility toward the nation not to allow for another term of the center-right GERB government of PM Boyko Borisov, which he described as baleful.
At the closed meeting, Stanishev is said to have proposed a new, 23-member Executive Board, plus the chair of the National Council.
"This is one of the hardest moments for our party in recent history, so I was guided by the principle of internal balances in the party for the composition of the Board," the leader is reported to have said.
However, internal sources have told Bulgaria's Focus Information Agency, that among the 23 suggested by Stanishev, there are no supporters of former Bulgarian President and Bulgarian Socialist Party leader Georgi Parvanov.
After ending his second term as Bulgaria's President in January 2012, Parvanov launched a campaign to reclaim the Socialists' leader position.
However, at the party congress May 19-20, Parvanov felt his standing was not strong enough and withdrew his candidacy, paving the way for Stanishev's re-election.
