LUNAR Festival 2024: Illuminating Sofia's Nightscape Once Again
Sofia's Lunar Festival of Lights is back, illuminating the city with more than 20 captivating light installations across its most iconic landmarks.
Construction inspections have shown the condition of buildings in the Southwestern Bulgarian city of Pernik is worse than what was initially expected, according to the city's Mayor, Rositsa Yanakieva.
Yanakieva has told the Bulgarian National Radio that a total of 22 schools and 16 kindergartens in Pernik will be open on Monday.
She has clarified that the children from the three kindergartens that remain closed will be relocated to other kindergartens.
Serious damage has been observed in a total of 90 municipal buildings, she added.
Pernik's citizens have filed over 1 800 requests for earthquake damage assistance.
Tuesday's earthquake had a magnitude of about 5.8-6.0 on the Richter scale and struck at 2:58 am. Its epicenter was about 6 km from the city of Pernik and some 25 km from Sofia. The quake has been followed by numerous slight aftershocks.
