Bulgaria has the financial resources to cope with the damages caused by the 5.9 earthquake on Tuesday and its aftermaths, the country's Finance Minister Simeon Djankov has stated.

The Finance Minister described the government's reaction as "immediate." He revealed that Prime Minister Boyko Borisov woke him up several minutes after the earthquake struck.
Dozens of buildings have suffered material damages in the capital Sofia and the city of Pernik, as well as in nearby villages.
The earthquake had a magnitude of about 5.9-6.0 on the Richter scale and struck at 2:58 am Tuesday morning. Its epicenter is located about 6 km from the city of Pernik. The quake struck at a depth of approximately 9.4 kilometers.
