Bulgaria's center-right GERB cabinet headed by PM Boyko Borisov is already gearing for general elections scheduled for the summer of 2013, said opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party chair Sergey Stanishev.
"The government is now taking up only actions that are oriented towards the next parliamentary elections," commented Stanishev at a press conference Tuesday.
According to the Socialist leader, the Borisov cabinet has scrapped all strategic policies aiming for the development of Bulgaria, and is just hastily trying to use the levers of power to better position itself in upcoming polls.
"The recent behavior and activities of our PM Borisov and vice-PM Tsvetan Tsvetanov clearly show the current pre-election mindset of GERB," said Stanishev.
BSP's leader, who also holds the interim presidency of the Party of European Socialists, again stressed his opinion that the Socialists are the only viable alternative to GERB in the economic and political stalemate in Bulgaria.
At the same time, Stanishev did not fail to address the Socialists' upcoming congress this weekend, at which he is to stand up for re-election as the party's leader, against previous leader and former Bulgarian President Georgi Parvanov.
Stanishev again accused Parvanov of launching a divisive internal campaign and introducing an "unprecedentedly extreme tone" at a time when the party needs unity.
