Bulgaria: Macedonian Ex-Deputy Minister Nabbed in Bulgaria - Report File photo of Zoran Danevski by novini.bg

Macedonia's former Deputy Agriculture Minister Zoran Danevski has been arrested in Bulgaria, according to the Radko Association, a political organization of Macedonian citizens with Bulgarian national consciousness.

The association has called for Danevski's release, as they believe the trial against him in Skopje will have political grounds, the Bulgarian National Radio has informed.

Danevski is suspected of robbing Macedonia's state budget of EUR 1.5 M.

However, according to Perica Avramov from the Radko Association, Macedonian authorities are persecuting Danevski because of his Bulgarian national consciousness. He believes the accusation that the former Deputy Minister has been involved in murky wheat deals is fake.

Over the past few years, there have been dozens of similar cases involving Macedonian citizens declaring themselves as Bulgarian, Avramov has pointed out.
