Bulgaria Reports Lowest Hourly Labour Costs in EU for 2023: Eurostat

Close to 84% of the income of Bulgarians is being spent in covering basic consumer needs, according to official statistics revealed Saturday.
Bulgaria's National Statistical Institute has estimated that in 2011 Bulgarians spend most for food - some 35% of their income.
The large percentage of consumer needs expenses is then made up of utilities spending - 14.4%, transportation - 6%, health - 5.7%, alcohol and cigarettes - 4.5%, entertainment - 4%, clothes - 3%, etc.
Given an average yearly income for 2011 of BGN 3,672 per person, the average Bulgarian has spent BGN 1,265 for food, over BGN 500 for utilities, and BGN 155 for alcohol and cigarettes.
For a comparison, the countries in the EU where people spend the most of their income for food are Romania - 29% and Lituania - 26.4%.
In contrast, people in Luxembourg and the UK have spend just 9% of their revenue for food.
According to Eurostat data, some 24% of the income of European citizens has been spent for housing.
