US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has confirmed information that in the last few days, US services have prevented an attack organized by Al Qaeda to bomb a passenger plane.

Earlier, there were reports in US media that CIA and international special agents have prevented a possible terror strike, writes RIA Novosti.

The attack was allegedly organized by the Al Qaeda branch based in Yemen, which involved using a new generation bomb to blow up a passenger plane.

The strike was allegedly planned to commemorate the anniversary of the death of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, who was killed by US services May 2, 2011.

Now US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta has confirmed those reports, saying that US special services have recently thwarted a similar terrorist attack.
