A large amount of toxic substance has been discovered in a district of Bulgaria's capital Sofia, the Interior Ministry reported Friday.
A call was placed late Thursday evening by an unidentified citizen, reporting that a very toxic substance had been dumped in the Sofia "Hadzi Dimitar' district.
Employees of the capital's fire department and of the City Hall have removed the substance and organized its transport for safekeeping in a specialized army vehicle.
The vehicle, however, broke during the transport and the substance had to be reloaded to a new one on the main Sofia thoroughfare "Alley Yavorov."
The Interior Ministry assures everyone that all needed measures for safe storage have been undertaken and the transport had not endangered in any way the city's residents. All employees who had been in contact with the substance already underwent medical exams.
The Sofia Directorate of the Interior Ministry is investigating how the substance ended in a residential district of the capital.
