German Chancellor Angela Merkel has stated that she would be making a last minute decision whether to attend the European Football Championship in Ukraine.

Merkel is one of the top European officials that have threatened to boycott the Euro 2012 games in Ukraine due to concerns over the treatment of the country's former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

On Thursday, Merkel told regional newspaper K?lner Stadt Anzeiger that state of law in Ukraine was a "cause for concern." However, she added that, "I always decide on such things at short notice."

Merkel underlined that it is important for Tymoshenko to receive the appropriate treatment for her illness quickly.

The former Ukrainian PM started a hunger strike on April 20 to protest an alleged beating she received in prison.

On Wednesday, Austrian and Belgian officials revealed that they would join the plans to boycott Euro 2012 football games played in Ukraine.

Euro 2012 will be co-hosted by Ukraine and Poland and is to take place between June 8 and July 1.
