Russia to Step Up Attacks on Western Weapons Depots in Ukraine
Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced today that Russia will escalate strikes on Ukrainian storage bases housing weapons supplied by Western nations
An investigation of the Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office has failed to find evidence to substantiate the allegations of jailed ex PM Yulia Tymoshenko that she was physically abused in prison, a prosecutor has announced.
At the end of last week, global news agencies released photos of Tymoshenko showing bruises on her body that she claimed to have received as she was beaten during her transportation to a hospital.
According to Vadim Goran, head of the supervisory department at the Ukrainian Prosecutor's Office, cited by ITAR-TASS, no evidence was found to justify her complaint.
"We conducted a number of inspections and interrogated all participants in her transportation... anybody who could be a witness. Yulia Tymoshenko's statements were not confirmed by the investigation," he said.
The former Prime Minister of Ukraine is in jail on a seven-year sentence for abuse of power over the signing of an allegedly unfavorable gas supply contract with Russia after the 2009 gas crisis. Tymoshenko herself claims that she is being targeted by her political opponent, Ukraine's current President Viktor Yanukovych.
