Bulgaria: Bulgarian PM Extremely Disappointed with Anti-Corruption Unit's Work

Bulgarian Prime Minister has expressed strong criticism towards the work of the country's Center for Prevention of Organized Crime and Corruption (BORKOR).

"I am utterly disappointed with the work of that unit," Borisov declared at the latest Cabinet sitting.

"I hope that, once we find the right person (to head the unit), we will speed up the work, especially when it comes to doing analyses and assisting the main human rights organizations," he added.

On Monday, Borisov axed BORKOR's former head Rumen Milanov. Earlier the same day, Milanov was also sacked as Borisov's adviser.

On Tuesday, Eleonora Nikolova, former Mayor of the city of Ruse, was appointed as the interim head of the unit.

BORKOR has a primarily analytical function, but costs the Bulgarian state budget about BGN 2 M per year.
