Bulgaria's Rakovski Defense and Staff College, the country's oldest military institution of higher education, marks the 100th anniversary since its establishment on Friday.

Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev, Defense Minister Anyu Angelov and Head of Defense Gen. Simeon Simeonov will be present at Friday's official ceremony, during which accomplished service members will be awarded.

On April 20 1912, Bulgarian Tsar Ferdinand I officially approved the law that allowed the establishment of the college.

The Rakovski Defense and Staff College opened on 4 January 1915, delayed due to the Balkan Wars.

Since its creation, the college has served as the main institution for the training of military commanders and personnel in Bulgaria and the primary one in the field of national security and military science, as well as NATO operational compatibility.
