Bulgarian Sumo Star Kotooshu Proudly Poses with Son
Top sumo wrestler, Bulgarian Kaloyan Mahlyanov, aka Kotooshu, has revealed to the public for the first time his four-month-old son, named Cyril.
The memorable and happy event took place in Yasukuni, a Shinto shrine located in central Tokyo and was witnessed by a huge audience of 13 000, as well as a group of the strongest rikishis (wrestlers), who staged a ceremonial performance there.
Cyril was born in November last year, while his father was competing in the Fukuoka tournament.
Kaloyan Mahlyanov married his long-time girlfriend Asako Ando on Saint Valentine's Day, February 14, 2010. Best man of the happy couple was the President of the Bulgarian Sumo Federation Petar Stoyanov – Vozhda.
The newly married couple also had a wedding ceremony at a Christian church.
Kotooshu, known also in Japan as "the Beckham of the sumo world", announced his engagement to Miss Asako Ando in the middle of 2009. She is three years older than Kotooshu.
The two met five years ago in Aichi. When Kotooshu first approached her on the street, Asako, who had no idea he was a sumo wrestler, thought it was odd that a foreign guy had a traditional Japanese hairstyle.
Kotooshu and his beloved visited Bulgaria for the first time together in the summer of 2009 when he was awarded Bulgaria's highest order - Stara Planina I medal from former President Georgi Parvanov at a special ceremony, in which he was accompanied by his Japanese fianc?e.
Mahlyanov currently holds the second highest title in sumo - ozeki.
