Bulgaria's former President Georgi Parvanov has expressed his certainty that no gas power plant will be constructed instead of the abandoned Belene Nuclear Power Plant project.
"Do you know how much gas will be necessary to achieve approximately the same capacity that was planned for Belene? As much as Bulgaria's entire consumption right now," Parvanov has pointed out in an interview for the Presa daily.
According to Parvanov, the country cannot expect to receive as much gas from either Romania or Azerbaijan via Turkey.
In his interview, the former head of state has also criticized Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov, who he believes has crippled the Bulgarian diplomacy by leaving between 30 and 40 diplomatic missions abroad without Ambassadors.
The former President referred to the preparation for the major diplomatic reshuffle that aimed to replace Ambassadors whose terms have expired, as well as many envoys exposed as agents of the former State Security, the secret service of the Bulgarian communist regime.
Parvanov himself is a former State Security agent.
