Bulgaria's Education Ministry has scrapped its idea to step in and manage Sofia's College Town, the country's largest university campus area.

The Ministry had decided to gain control over the campus area after the latest murder that took place there at the end of February.

However, Education Minister Sergey Ignatov admitted on Monday that such measure would be too complex to carry out, hinting that some Sofia-based universities may be unwilling to let go of the dormitories they are managing.

"Besides that, we analyzed the situation in the so-called College Town. There is no such town. There is a territory on which 50 buildings are constructed as college dormitories, as well as 30 residential buildings and what not," Ignatov explained, as cited by dnevnik.bg.

At the end of Mario Danchev, 19, from the western city of Pernik, was murdered in a brawl in the dormitory where he lived with his twin brother Martin, prompting the Education Ministry to declare it would step in and declare tougher discipline.

Sofia's College Town district is notorious for frequent fights, triggered by alcohol binging.The access to the district's abundance of night clubs is not restricted to students.

20-year-old pharmacy student Stoyan Baltov died on December 5, 2008 after sustaining severe head trauma and skull fracture from a beating in front of the "Amnesia" disco club in the district.
