Sunday is the speculated birthday date of new North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who came to power end of 2011 after the demise of his father Kim Jong-il.

The precise date of birth of the new leader of North Korea is not revealed, and commentators were expecting it is not going to be celebrated due to the very recent death of his father, on December 17.

In the past, the birthdays of Kim Jong-il and his father Kim Il-sung, the first revolutionary leader in the Korean north, were celebrated by all-national festivities.

Sunday the North Korean national TV showed Kim Jong-un driving a tank and monitoring military drills.

Foreign commentators have been uncertain how smooth the transition of power will be in North Korea after the death of Kim Jong-il.

In late December Kim Jong-un, already dubbed "the Great Successor", was officially proclaimed "Supreme Commander" of North Korea's military.
