The contract of Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov will be extended, Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed , officially ending the rumors concerning the Bulgarian's future with the Red Devils.

United have a one-way option to extend Berbatov's deal by 12 months, and they will take advantage of that clause when it becomes active in March, ESPN has informed.

"We'll be exercising [the option to renew]. I think it kicks in in March." Ferguson has been cited saying.

Even though Berbatov has been struggling to command a place in the United starting line-up this season, he has been in spectacular form recently, scoring a total of four goals in his last two Premiership games.

The Bulgarian has already scored 53 goals in 142 appearances for the club.

Fulham, Tottenham, PSG, and Valencia were among the high-profile European clubs who were said to eye the prolific forward as he seemed to be unsettled at Old Trafford.
